Stumbled across your (previous) site just a few minutes ago while reading up on Secret of the Incas (1954), starring Charlton Heston and Yma Sumac. I was amused to find your user icon is the same as the one I use at LiveJournal, the tiki drummer from Ryden's artwork on the Baxter set!
Here's an updated link to James Byrne's amazing Secret of the Incas. I watched the film a couple of nights ago, and enjoyed it immensely. Not as "action-packed" as Indiana Jones, perhaps, but the dialog is far wittier, loaded with double entendres, and the characters are much better developed. And Heston just looks cool in the "Indy gear."
Plus, of course, Yma Sumac in action!
I am gonna LOVE your site! I forsee a LOT of hours idled away exploring vintage exotica and lounge!

I now realize it is a recent release...it ALSO contains "Percussion at work" and three other albums put together as a new release. For example, Barnes & Nobles lists it as out of stock...so I may after all be able to buy it...All for the sake of "Percussion at Work"..which I am very perplexed is not highly regarded amongst "critics'. What the heck do they know anyways???

wow, blue hawaiian's version is great! i honestly nhad never heard it before- but i do see the similarities. i guess that's because we both seem to be using mancini's original as source.
i need to hear more blue hawaiians! i haven't listened to much of the new lounge/tiki stuff, because i'm not through listening to the original generation yet, but these guys really sound fantastic, thanks for the tip!
Does anyone have a copy of "Bongos, reeds, and Brass" by Bob Florence? It was a really good LP, but I lost it also many years ago. It was on the Hi Fi Life label. I had it in both Stereo and Mono I liked it so much.

I came across an old cassette tape I made decades ago, and was wondering if anyone has a copy of "FOR BLOOZERS ONLY" by Rey Dimichel? I knew the composer/arranger John Defoor, and the tenor soloist Teddy Edwards. It would be nice to have a good copy of that one, but I think it's really rare. A long shot, but who knows.

Anyway, I've been desperately looking for some Narrative Travelogue records about traveling to pretty much anywhere in the South Seas. I know this is a bit of a long shot, and not exactly your specialty, but I thought you might be able to assist. Astonishingly rare custom-press exotica grail. I believe only one copy is known to exist of this, though that may have changed. Heavenly mellow Hawaiian strumming/Denny-esque crossbreed ... production is low-key but not necessarily completely lo-fi. Great guitar work pops up in odd little places that reminds me of Sandy Bull's sensibility, as the cocktail piano keeps pace, and vibraphones get elucidated on palm tree narcolepts. A real mid-nite winner, as magical and transportive as any of the great exotica releases. Amazing this has stayed buried this long...'

I am a fan, so I figure some of your readers must be too. It's just my way of saying thanks for all the great music you have been posting!
If any of you you don't know Serge's music, start with Initials B.B. then go after Jane Birkin. Melody Nelson is his most famouse record, but it is not the most accessable piece of music ever recorded.

I would add to the above post that Gainsbourg's earlier stuff has a much more lounge feel than the later pop stuff, and Gainsbourg Percussions has an exotica feel, with bird and animal calls and tribal sounding drums. Also, Serge's voice isn't completely shot yet, and still has a nice sound.

The rhetoric seems to have gotten a bit hot. Let me remind everybody that music is a universal language, and as such appeals to people of all different backgrounds and persuasions. At it's best music has the ability to bring people of all stripes together. Kind of beautiful, huh? So let's not ruin it by bickering.
