Wake up Lazarus (tell Tchaikovsky the news)

Here's a compilation of tracks from albums I've acquired lately and which I think are pretty good indeed. There's a 60s psychedelic undertone to most of the tunes and they're all pretty uptempo and uplifting not withstanding the ominous looking cover.

They've all been standardised to a common bitrate and had Replaygain hard coded so the sound should be consistent on all tracks.

Just a bit of background to this collection. The Terry Callier track came about because I found a 1965 album of his on a blog and the track Lazarus Man was on an album I already had. I just love this track and it tells of meeting a young man named Lazarus on the Skeleton Coast. Great lyrics, guitar licks Gabor Szabo would be proud of and soulful singing, who could ask for more? Its worth getting this comp just for that track.

The rest aint too shabby either with the Cosmic Rough Riders being another great discovery channeling the Byrds from 1966 with harmonies to kill for and they're actually having recent hits. There's hope for music yet.

Must mention Robin Gibb's album Robin's Reign, recorded in 1970 following the temporary split up of the Bee Gees. It contains Robin's only hit, Saved By the Bell but the whole album is a downer delight with morose moody tunes and its held in some quarters as the greatest Bee Gees related album ever. It was released in a hurry to cash in on his one success but was deleted soon after and has never been officially released on CD. The whole album sounds like a demo with Robin singing backed by what sounds like a primitive drum machine. The producer has then engaged luminaries like Zac Laurence to embellish the frail demos with lush orchestral backings. Very weird indeed but oddly engaging and emotional. The track I've included Mother and Jack is just about the only uptempo tune on the album until you realise its about a mother and son being evicted from their house.

Anyhow enough waffling just listen OK!

These are a request. I don't know too much about them. I was surprised that they were in the Xtabay archives but I hadn't got around to listening to them. I can report that they are in excellent hi fi quality and definitely not from a children's sandlot.

Thanks to Balthazar from Recordville for the original upload. His links are long dead so get em here folks.
