These albums are all my own rips. I think some if not all have been shared before but the bit rate on these should be better. First up a fine punchy album from Garry Blake and with a nice cover.
One of my first shares the wonderful Tony Osborne. He's worked with such stars as Judy Garland and Louis Armstrong. This is one of my favourite Space Age Pop albums full of punchy brass and piano and even has some fine originals. I believe Tony now in his eighties still tinkles the ivories somewhere in a beach bar in Sydney.
I really fine album, my copy wasn't pristine but it still sounds pretty reasonable.
This album is also a Space Pop masterpiece. One of my best rips with great sound and some really interesting original tunes. Methinks one of the former members of Manfred Mann is behind this. If anyone has any more by this group other than this and Yesterday's Dreams I'd love to get a copy.
This is kinda funny and creepy all at the same time. From the introducing MC in Elvis wannabe gold lame jacket and casually folded arms to the creepy back drop tableaux and Sara Palin backing singers this is quite disturbing. Pete looks like he's on life support and who'd want to use his vocoder after him? Great sound though.
Here are three albums that immediately sprang to my mind when I thought of essential albums and here they are.
What a wonderful record this is. A library record and its one of the very best of its type.
This is one of my all time favourites, is it a library album, a Kraut rock album or an electronic album? Who knows but its great. Bekker was active as late as the late 90s and collaborates with such people as Asmus Tietchens who's also worth seeking out.
This is it the holy grail of lounge and library albums and an exotica masterpiece. Nardini and Roger's finest moment in a long career for both in the library music field.
Here's something a bit different. I uploaded this a while ago to Rapidshare. Its my own rip and I think quite interesting.
Arranger, composer, leader, trombonist, Bill Russo died in Chicago on January 11th 2003 at the age of 74. He was born in the Windy city on June 25, 1928.
The music sounds like a late fifties crime jazz soundtrack at times and wouldn't have been out of place in say the Naked City.
His music is more avant gard jazz than lounge and he's played with Kenton and lots of other luminaries. The story is included in a text file.
Yma Sumac has passed away aged 86 on Saturday November 1st. This Peruvian singer had a wonderful multi octave voice. Her album Voice of the Xtabay was of course the inspiration for this blog.
Her album the Ultimate Collection is referenced in the sidebar. I recently managed to find a copy of Secret of the Incas her film debut after much searching even though it is a fuzzy VHS copy but better than nothing.
