Berlin School - Electronic Landscapes

Not a Teutonic finishing school its a style of electronic music using mainly analog mainframe synths like the Moog Modular together with early sequencers and then the warm melodic sounds of guitars, keyboards and sound effects to humanise the sound.

It was started in the 70s by pioneers such as Klaus Schultze and most famously Tangerine Dream. Later proponents like Redshift and Ian Boddy keep the form alive but albeit in a quite obscure fashion. It is supposed to be a forerunner of New Age but its much more focused and interesting than that and I think its actually a precursor to ambient artists like Pete Namlook and John Serrie.

Anyway its by far my favourite form of moog and synth music and here's a sampling of old and new artists starting with a theme by Tangerine Dream from their best album Rubycon. Its a later interpretation from the Tangents set but retains the musical qualities of the original.
