Les Baxter update

I've uploaded some more Baxter albums to the Les Baxter blog and found some links to some more albums. I've put them in the list of albums in the sidebar so check there to fill in your Baxter collection.

The Capitol collection (pre 1962) is looking pretty good with most essential albums there and only a few more albums to upload and find.

Truly, you've created a dream blog with the Les Baxter Tribute. You're filling holes in my Baxter collection that I never thought would ever be filled. "La Femme" has been on my list for ages. Many, many thanks!

I’ve always liked “Midnight On The Cliffs” and “La Femme” which is great music to relax to, with a glass of Jack in your hand.. Les’ “Kaleidoscope” album is another fun one, but rarely seen LP.

Thanks. I am enjoying the Les Baxter Blog a lot. I am a fan, and there are a lot of albums here I had never heard, like Skins, Kalaidoscope, Que Mango, all great stuff, and new to me. I am curious about La Femme. At first I didn't like it, but after a few listens it grew on me and now I love it. It doesn't sound like Baxter at all though. I am wondering if there is a story behind it, especially since it is unlike him to let others conduct his work.

Anyway, as usual, thanks for all the great music.

Hi Jonathon - thanks for your comments.

Space Age Pop has the following about the La Femme album:

"Pourcel also deserves mention as the earliest artist to pay tribute to Les Baxter. Pourcel recorded Baxter's "La Femme," a lush and very "serious" suite of thematically linked numbers that's probably sought after now more for the female nude on the cover than for any of the music within. Several others from his early Capitol albums also include tracks Baxter composed especially for Pourcel. "

So there you go Pourcel was one of the earliest artists to recognize and feature Les Baxter tunes.
