Another Tipton obscurity. After tackling Jan & Dean, Tipton gives his impression of terminal geek Nillson's repertoire. And a nice album it is.
Highly talented but plagued by self doubt and a similar self hating lifestyle to sometime companion John Lennon, Nillson flared brilliantly in the late sixties and early seventies before succumbing to the Hollywood excesses and passing prematurely.
Thanks to the brilliant blog "For the Love of Harry" for this rare gem and there's a treasure trove of Harry's material there. For a (not so) minor talent the aforesaid site is an exhaustive labour of love for the Harryphiles involved.
Essential albums: Aerial Pandemonium Ballet, Nillson Schmillson and Son of Schmillson.
Track list
01. Rainmaker
02. Poly High
03. Nobody Cares About The Railroads Anymore
04. Think About Your Troubles
05. Marchin' Down Broadway
06. One
07. Maybe
08. Open Your Window
09. Without Her
10. Mourning Glory Story
11. Waiting

Great link, thanks...
....but 'minor talent'?
I don't think so Mr X
minor talent?
MINOR TALENT??
I don't think so Mr X
Thanks, X. I have a strange affinity for Nillson...I never cared to hear him do his own stuff although I think he was a talented writer, but enjoy the work of others performing his music, so this is a treat for me. Thanks once again!
Thank you for this! (p.s. I disagree that Nilsson was but a minor talent -- but then I'm a fan, so what do you expect?)
Many thanks for the Harry plug. VERY appreciated. We've added you guys to our blogroll. Any help you can offer in turning listeners on to the world of Harry Nilsson would be greatly appreciated. It's why we exist, and you're correct... it is a labor of love for all of us. Thanks again.
Great to hear from you Willard, Harry definitely got out of the boat and was in that great category of talent only eclipsed by the likes of his good mate John Lennon. Pity they both had such short lives.
I've added you to my links, keep up the staggeringly good work.
Many, many thanks again. We're digging your oddities, as well.
